Re: Pt. 2 Re: "Rape culture" and the presumption of male guilt cont.

The term itself is NOT USEFUL, though. That's my point. It's so ugly & pejorative, and the concepts used to explain it are so biased it can only hurt the education that is so desperately needed.

It's like this... are you more likely to listen to me if I walk up to you and say "Ma'am, I'd like to talk to you about the problem of systemic bias against men in child custody issues" or if I say "Hey lady, I'd like to talk to you about fucking cunts who won't let men see their kids"?
The phrase "rape culture" is equivalent to the second approach, and people will simply tune you out, or react with incredulity as Dawkins did. You lose the battle as soon as you utter the words.

I NEVER said you can't be anti-abortion and anti-violence, not once. Nor did I say being very religious is incompatible with those two things. As with what I'm saying about rape culture & privilege, you're reading in things I DO NOT say. I said you cannot be a part of active evangelical groups (a SPECIFIC religious affiliation, not all religions) and truly support those things, because the groups THEMSELVES do not. Evangelical groups are widely tied to violence and the preaching thereof, even if all the members don't support it the underlying PHILOSOPHY does and by giving money or aid to the groups the members inherently support it. It's the same with rape culture, it's an inherently flawed concept from its inception.

Just as you're reading things in to my words that aren't there, you're missing things that're blatantly & plainly not only a part of but the basis of the ideas you espouse, and those ideas hurt the righteous goal that you aspire to. People abuse rape culture because it was designed to be used as such.
