So, I am such a huge nerd that, while updating my sexual history sheet, I decided to create a graphical representation of my sexual history.  It's not as detailed as I'd like, but I haven't decided how many more details I should represent.  So far, it's a bar graph/timeline that shows everyone in my history in chronological order and color-coordinated based on 4 categories:  1) casual/fuckbuddies/one-night-stands that do not include intercourse, 2) relationships that do not include intercourse, 3) casual/fuckbuddies/one-night-stands that do include intercourse and 4) relationships that include intercourse.  I thought about coding for specific activities (since they are included on the list), but the color coding or other forms of grouping would be complicated because of the large number of combinations of activities, if not number of activities themselves.  The timeline is broken up by my age in years, so it's hard to tell some of the chronology because some years I had several partners in one year, but they weren't all concurrent.  Problem is I'm so fuzzy on time, that I'm not sure how to clarify that because I can barely remember the year, let alone the month or date!  So I still have some work to do, but it's a good start.

But yeah, I'm a dork.

so, here's a categorization question: If you have basically 4 categories - "unprotected sex", "protected sex, possibly oral sex", "HPV boundaries + oral sex", and "HPV boundaries", where would you place genital contact that is not intercourse? Because of its HPV transmission possibilities, I assume you'd place it in the "unprotected sex" category, but I want to ask anyway your thoughts on the subject. Sometimes there is accidental and/or brief contact that is not penetration. Since I'm reasonably certain that's how I acquired my own case of HPV 12 years ago (being too inexperienced to have many possibilities to choose from), I'm extremely leery of minimizing transmission potential for a contact situation, even though there might be no penetration and even a very short time for contact. So, yours or anyone else's thoughts?

well, I would say a quick accidental brush up in the region say when you're taking a shower or hugging or something isn't likely to pass HPV (from what I understand). It seems to make it easiest if one person just keeps their underwear on, though.

In terms of whether I'd put it in L3 or L4, I think that would depend on *why* I was L3. Before I have sex with someone with a condom I want test results, I make peace with their HPV risk, and either negotiate an agreement about future partners, or let them know that we may have to drop our boundaries back if things change in a way I'm not comfortable with. So, usually if I've got that cleared up I'm ok with fluid bonding - so while we may be using condoms for birth control (or another reason) I'm fine with getting away with whatever we can get away with otherwise.

If I'm using condoms specifically to minimize HPV risk (I could see this coming up if I was a little shakey on someone else in the network, but didn't feel there was significant risk to go all the way back to L1), then no, I would not include direct genital contact in L3. It's so rare that I get to L3 with someone though, that it's pretty easy to take it on a case by case basis.
